COUNSELLING AND THERAPY FOR INDIVIDUALS

Hello, and thank you for visiting Space To Think Counselling.

My name is Clare Bennett and I am a Bristol-based counsellor providing online therapy to individuals throughout the UK.

We all experience life differently and I am not here to judge you or tell you what to do. Instead, I will listen and do my best to understand your perspective and who you are. I use warmth, humour, compassion and curiosity to support you and develop an effective therapeutic relationship.

I am a person-centred counsellor and our work will always be guided by you and at a pace which you find comfortable. I am a fully qualified and insured MBCAP registered therapist and work within the BACP’s principles and ethical framework. I work one-on-one with adults and young people and have experience of working in a variety of secondary schools. I have also worked extensively in the area of loss and bereavement.

HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP?

Life brings many challenges, and it is understandable that at times we might look for support in facing them.

We are currently living in very strange times and it’s a rare person who doesn’t feel overwhelmed at some point. This can exacerbate mental health issues such as depression, stress, anxiety, grief and self-doubt. Coming to counselling can be the first step in helping us cope with these feelings.

Counselling is a safe space where we can hear ourselves think and start to gain some clarity. It is confidential, warm and supportive - somewhere where you can safely express your thoughts and emotions, and know that you won’t be judged. It also offers a chance to reflect on the difficulties or problems you are experiencing, with someone from outside your day-to-day life. Together we can explore your situation in a way that leads to fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of yourself.

My approach to therapy is a person-centred one. This means I work in a completely open, non-judgemental way - therapy isn’t about giving you solutions or advice, it's about empowering you to make your own changes.

People come to me for help a wide range of issues. Here are a few of the more common difficulties that can be supported through therapy:

Issues relating to ADD / ADHD

Anxiety

Relationship problems

Grief, loss or bereavement

Cancer and health issues

Abuse

Spirituality

Depression

Problems with confidence or self-esteem

Issues relating to sexuality

Difficulties at work or in retirement

Problems with family or school life

Stress

Women’s issues

SPEAK IN CONFIDENCE

Therapy takes place in a safe space, where you can speak with someone who will listen with sensitivity and empathy – and without judgement. In the therapy space thoughts and feelings can be expressed freely and in confidence.

A PROBLEM SHARED...

Difficulty with relationships; stress, anxiety or panic attacks; mood swings or depression – many people face difficulties in their everyday lives that can be hard to get on top of. Therapy gives us insights we can use to help gain a better understanding of what's causing these problems - and how we can move towards managing or resolving them.

CONTACT ME

Feel free to email me if you have any questions about how counselling works, whether it could be helpful for you and how we might work together.

You can also call me on 07889 543246 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have.

MY LOCATION

I am currently working online, which has the advantage of being more accessible to those with time constraints, have caring responsibilities, or experience mobility issues.

FEES & AVAILABILITY

I charge £50 for a fifty minute session, and ideally we would meet once a week. However, life is complicated and so I do offer flexibility within my schedule.

I offer a free 15 minute introductory session – either by phone or via Zoom. Finding the right therapist is so important, and this is an opportunity for you to ask me any questions you have, and to decide if you think we can work well together. Please feel free to email me with any questions or to arrange a call. I look forward to hearing from you.

YOU MAY NOT KNOW IT, BUT YOU’VE ALREADY TAKEN THE FIRST STEP...

It can be scary making the decision to contact a counsellor or therapist. However, in my experience people will struggle with a mental health issue, a personal crisis or problems with a relationship for much longer than is healthy. Sometimes a friend has proved a source of comfort, but this help can only go so far. Realising that resolving a problem requires something more means you have actually already taken the first step towards improving your life.
